Qwen Code is an Apache-2.0 terminal coding agent from Alibaba's Qwen team, with MCP support, available for macOS, Linux and Windows. Its README describes it as open source for the terminal, editor, desktop, browser and chat, with automatic memory and skills, subagents, and support for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and Qwen APIs, as well as local models through Ollama or vLLM. Install is a script or npm, and the npm route needs Node.js 22 or newer. The client costs nothing; model use is billed by the provider you choose. We would suggest it to developers who want a terminal agent tuned for Qwen models yet open to other providers. The main limit is that a free tier for Qwen's hosted models was not something we confirmed, so we record the tool as free and make no promise about hosted inference prices. We read the README on 31 October 2026 and have not used the agent ourselves.
