AutoGen is Microsoft's framework for multi-agent applications, and its repository now carries an archived notice: Microsoft says it is not providing bug fixes, security fixes, new features or support, and tells new users to start with Microsoft Agent Framework, described as the production-ready successor with stable APIs. The code installs with pip and needs Python 3.10 or newer, and the repository remains for reference. Our licence data shows cc-by-4.0, which covers the documentation, and our notes flag that the code licence was not confirmed. We list AutoGen because older tutorials and papers still use it, and we would suggest it only for reading or for maintaining an existing project. New work belongs on the successor or on another framework in our guide. The main limit is the one in the notice itself: unaddressed vulnerabilities in the project or its dependencies. We read the README on 31 October 2026 and have not built with it ourselves.
