Agent Development Kit, or ADK, is Google's open-source, code-first framework for building, evaluating and deploying agents. Its README for version 2.0 describes a graph-based workflow runtime with routing, fan-out and fan-in, loops, retries, state, human-in-the-loop steps and nested workflows. It is optimised for Gemini but says it is model-agnostic and deployment-agnostic, and there are versions for Python, Java, Kotlin, Go and TypeScript. The project is licensed Apache 2.0 and supports MCP servers. The framework itself is free; model and hosting costs depend on what you connect. We would suggest it to teams on Google Cloud, or anyone who wants one framework across several languages with a web UI for testing. The main limit is that the documentation and defaults lean toward Google services, so teams on other clouds should check how much of the deploy path they can reuse. We read the README on 31 October 2026 and have not built with ADK ourselves.
