The OpenAI Agents SDK is an MIT-licensed Python framework for multi-agent workflows, with a JavaScript and TypeScript version alongside. Its README lists agents, sandbox agents for long tasks in a container, realtime and voice agents, handoffs and agents-as-tools, guardrails, human-in-the-loop, sessions and tracing, and says it works with the Responses and Chat Completions APIs and with more than a hundred other models. It needs Python 3.10 or newer. The SDK costs nothing to install; model calls are billed by whichever provider you use. We would suggest it to teams on OpenAI models who want a small set of building blocks without a graph engine. The main limit is that tracing and several features are tied to OpenAI's platform, so portability depends on what you adopt. Our framework guide compares it with LangGraph, CrewAI and the others. We read the README on 31 October 2026 and have not built with it ourselves.
