The Claude Agent SDK is Anthropic's library for building agents on the same loop that powers Claude Code. The Python package installs with pip, needs Python 3.10 or newer, and bundles the Claude Code CLI so no separate install is required, though you can point it at a system copy. The docs overview covers sessions, streaming input and output, MCP, subagents, skills, plugins, permissions, hooks, checkpointing, and cost tracking. The library is free; you pay for the Claude usage it consumes. We would suggest it to developers who want Claude Code's behaviour inside their own application. The main limits are that it is built around Claude models, and that we could not confirm the licence of the TypeScript SDK: the Python repository and our licence data say MIT, but the TypeScript package was not checked. We read the README and docs on 31 October 2026 and have not built with it ourselves.
